The 2006 Artemis Cabernet Sauvignon is a
blend of 92% Cabernet Sauvignon and 8%

Focused and complex, the wine opens with
aromas and flavors of black fruit—
blackberry, currant, and plum—that slowly
give way to layers of nutmeg, rosemary,
grilled game, and warm pie crust. This firmly
structured and full-bodied wine gains depth
and richness through the finish.

Niki Pruss, had long been an enthusiastic armature
beer-maker but during an extensive European bicycle
She realized that the career that she really wanted was
in wine.  

After returning from her trip back home to Northern CA
she began taking every class on wine and viticulture
that Napa Valley College offered.  One of her teachers
was Bob broman winemaker at Stag's leap wine
cellars who encouraged her to become an intern at
the winery in 1998.  She was promoted up the ranks of
winemaking from lab-tech to a wine maker in 2005
under the direct supervision of wine maker Warren
Winiarski.  Throughout her tenure at Stag's Leap Wine
Cellar, she has continued to attend the University of
CA at Davis for course work but most of her practical
winemaking education has occurred on the job.  

Nicki's contributions at Stag's Leap Wine Cellars have
been numerous.  She was instrumental in taking the
Napa Valley regional Cabernet program to the
estate-based Artemis Cabernet program, and
revitalizing the winery's Sauvignon Blanc program with
a style that has been widely successful.

She holds a Certificate in Viticulture and Winery
Technology from the Napa Valley College, a B.A. in
Biological Sciences from UC Santa Barbara.
